Vic alpine grazing review 12 May 2004
The Victorian Government has appointed the Alpine Grazing Taskforce to determine the future of alpine grazing in the state. Water and Environment Minister, John Thwaites, said graziers are due to receive an indication about future licensing arrangements in August this year, as most of the seven-year grazing licences expire in August 2005. He said the Government needs to investigate the current and potential benefits and impacts of cattle grazing in the alpine park.
However, the taskforce won't re-examine the return of cattle to areas affected by fires, as this is handled via a different process.
The taskforce will accept public submissions on alpine grazing impacts up until June 18 before reporting back to the Minister by the end of July. Submissions addressing the criteria can be e-mailed to: alpine.grazing@dse.vic.gov.au or posted to: Alpine Grazing Taskforce, c/o Department of Sustainability and Environment, 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne, Vic 3002.
