Hereford bull tops sale at $28,000 19 May 2004
Wodonga hosted a successful 39th Hereford National Show and Sale last week, where buyers from five states paid $625,500 for 119 bulls and females. Victorian producers underpinned the sale, paying up to $28,000 for bulls and $6,500 for females.
Richard and Susie Duddy, seedstock producers from Tamworth, sold the top $28,000 bull, Parson Hill President, to Ellingerin Herefords of Inverleigh. Mr Duddy said he was impressed with the strength of the Hereford National, especially as it followed the drought and a high national cow slaughter. He said there's been a "hell of a swing back to Hereford cattle". Feedlots are buying the cattle on performance and genetics, with the price the same across the board for vendor-bred cattle, Mr Duddy stated.
The breed has maintained its momentum following the 14th World Congress and the overall sale average in Australia stands at $5,256.
