Nothing paltry about big bird show 15 Jul 2004
Southern Tasmanian Poultry Club is holding its biggest ever poultry exhibition this weekend at the Royal Showground in Glenorchy. The club is celebrating its 150th birthday this year. It was founded in 1854 and is believed to be the oldest poultry society in Australia.
About 1,740 birds are expected to be on show, but there'll be no fowl play and plenty to crow about. There will be a historical display of photos, newspaper clippings, trophies and other memorabilia from the club's history.
The show has attracted exhibitors from all over Australia. There will be a trade-fair display for people in the poultry industry. Five interstate judges will attend and award $3,000 in prize money.
