Japan snaps on second tariff on beef 12 May 2005
Australia's beef exporters face the imposition of a "snap-back" tariff for sales to Japan, a tariff triggered once foreign beef sales rise more than 17 per cent in a quarter. As a result, tariffs on chilled beef imports from 39 per cent to 50 per cent. The Cattle Council said the tariff was likely to apply from August.
