Automatic tariff increase likely for Aussie beef
10 Jun 2005

Japan may impose a tariff on beef imports from Australia from August. Tariffs are expected to rise from 38.5 per cent to 50 per cent on August 1 if imports exceed by more than 17 per cent the level of import volumes over the same quarter of last year. Data on frozen beef sales suggest the quarterly beef import level will be close to 40 per cent up on the April to June quarter last year.
