Fodder in short supply
28 Jun 2005

This demand for hay over the last two months has exposed a national lack of fodder supplies, according to the peak industry body, the Australian Fodder Industry Association. AFIA said many hay merchants in eastern Australia were very low on fodder stocks, with stocks of lucerne and cereal hay sold out two months ahead of normal. Some vendors only have straw feed for sale. AFIA said price rises of between $80 and $100 a tonne were common in some districts.
