Rain brightens farmers hopes
1 Jul 2005

National Farmers Federation president Peter Corish said the June rains were "wonderful … it provides confidence for the rural community, and it provides an opportunity to plant crops and promote pasture growth. It's going to allow late plantings of winter cereal crops in many areas that haven't planted yet. For crops planted in the past few weeks, this rain will be excellent in promoting growth. The potential is there for a very good wheat crop, which wasn't there a month ago."

The Bureau of Meteorology reported above-average rainfall for June right across central and southern Queensland, virtually all of NSW, and in Victoria north of the divide.
