Drought aid extended for a third year 25 Jul 2005
The federal government extended exceptional circumstances drought aid assistance has been extended for 21 drought-affected regions in the Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. The EC drought aid extension is for another 12 months. Three regions in Western Australia are no longer eligible for the aid. In NSW, EC income support has been restored for Dubbo, Mudgee-Merriwa, Young (stone fruit producers), Armidale, Central North-North West, Northern New England, North East Northern New England, Eastern Riverina (dryland producers), Riverina (dryland producers), Southwest Slopes and Plains, and Walgett/Coonamble. Central North-Northwest croppers, however, was excluded from further aid. In Queensland, the extension covers eligible farmers in the following EC-declared regions: Central Coast; Stanthorpe Inglewood; Southern South East; Northern Darling Downs; Central Darling Downs; Southern Darling Downs, Western Downs and Maranoa and Southern Murweh.
