Beef exporters escape punitive tariff in Japan 29 Jul 2005
Japanese authorities confirmed the anticipated “snap-back" tariff on foreign beef would not apply from August because of a sharp drop in imports last quarter. Australia now supplies more than 90 per cent. Japanese distributors stockpiled Australian beef in their bond warehouses to avoid triggering the tariff.
