Second abattoir suspends operations 19 Aug 2005
The O'Connor beef plant in Pakenham on Melbourne’s outskirts said it would suspend operations for six weeks, citing reduced livestock supply and high prices. O'Connor may not be the only processor feeling the pinch. McPhee Bros in Wodonga said sourcing cattle at acceptable prices was becoming extremely difficult. McPhee’s said it could process 400 heads a day but was only handling that number each week. EG Green and Sons in Western Australia has also suspended trading for two weeks.
