EG Green will reopen next week
23 Aug 2005

Beef producer EG Green and Sons is expected to reopen its main abattoir next week. The Australian Meat Industry Employees Union said the abattoir would initially reopen as a five rather than seven-day-a-week operation. Full operations should resume when cattle numbers picked up in spring. Since the two-week closure of the Harvey abattoir on August 12, alternative arrangements have had to be made for an estimated 7000 head of cattle set for slaughter. Despite the turmoil, beef prices have remained steady and industry players do not expect them to suffer if the abattoir reopens next week.
