Mining boom lures rural workers

Rural employers are having to push up wages in skilled areas such as handling heavy machinery in order to compete with the higher wages paid in the mining industry. Operators of road trains, graders and end loaders are all being wooed by miners. Even less skilled workers in abattoirs are making the switch to mining where incomes are higher.
