Winter rains lift farm confidence 6 Sep 2005
Ample winter rains across most of the country have lifted confidence among farmers. The regular Rabobank survey shows that the proportion of farmers planning to increase investment on their properties over the next 12 months rose from 24 to 33 per cent, the highest level in almost four years. Only 16 per cent of farmers now expect conditions to deteriorate over the next year, down from 37 per cent three months earlier. The S Kidman & Co cattle empire, said the company's properties in the channel country had all got good winter rain, some receiving the best falls in 15 years. But conditions remained difficult on the company's Northern Territory holdings, where stock numbers have been lightened following a disappointing wet season.
