Crops returns increase, at the expense of livestock
13 Sep 2005

The gross value of agricultural commodities produced in 2003/04 rose by $4.4 billion, or 13 per cent, to $36.9 billion, in an indication of easing drought conditions throughout much of Australia. Most of the increase was due to a rise in the value of crops (up 32 per cent to $20.5 billion). The value of livestock slaughtered rose only two per cent, while the value of livestock products fell by 14 per cent to $5.5 billion during the same period.
