Cattle prices rise as saleyards attract few stock
22 Sep 2005

A shortage of cattle is driving up prices, with prices of 149 cents a kilogram paid in prime sales, equivalent to $1300 a head. The National Livestock Reporting Service said that in June about 1100 cows were sold through saleyards in NSW. Numbers halved to 6000 in July and August, as the rain encouraged farmers to hold onto stock.
