Too few goats to sustain abattoirs
4 Oct 2005

Australian goat meat exports increased by 16 per cent 2004/05 to a record 18,700 tonnes, making Australia the largest global exporter of goat meat. However, supply is patchy, partly because many goats are feral, and rounded up in the bush, rather than farmed. The supply squeeze contributed to the appointment of administrators to Broken Hill Export Abattoirs in late August.
