SA adopts livestock ID system
28 Nov 2005

South Australia said it would implement the National Livestock Identification System for sheep and goats from January.

The NLIS is a flock-based system to identify and trace sheep, lambs and farmed goats using visually readable ear tags.

All lambs and kids born after January 2006 must be identified with a breeder tag before leaving the property of birth. Those born before January 1, 2006 will not require mandatory tagging until January 2009.
