Salinity exaggerated
7 Dec 2005

Dryland salinity problems in Australia are exaggerated, according to a report published by the Australian Farm Institute. The AFI said dryland salinity assessment report published by the federal government in 2000, prepared as part of the National Land and Water Resources Audit, estimated there was 5.7 million hectares of land at risk or affected by salinity. That earlier report also found areas with a high risk of being affected could increase to about 17 million hectares within 50 years.
