Japan buying beef from the US again
13 Dec 2005

The Japanese government yesterday announced a partial resumption of US and Canadian beef imports in a move that is expected to have only minor impact upon Australian sales. In 2005, Australia is expected to sell slightly more than last years 393,000 tonnes to the Japanese, but this figure is likely to be lower in 2006 as overall beef consumption in Japan is down. Australia now supplies more than 50 per cent of the Japanese beef market.
