Victorian fires destroy farms
25 Jan 2006

One hundred thousand sheep may have been lost in this week’s fires across Victoria, with the VFF saying that the fires have caused significant damage to the Victorian rural economy. In the Grampians, more than 1,000 head of cattle have died and hundreds of kilometres of fencing destroyed. Although rain is required to ease the fires the Plague Locust Commission is warning that this would worsen the expected locust plague next month, which is anticipated to be the worst ever.
