AACo expands Wagyu herd
28 Mar 2006

Westholme Wagyu is selling its Wagyu beef business to the Australian Agricultural Company with a $1 million deal to buy 130 head of full blood wagyu bulls with an option to purchase the rest of the breeding business for $9 million. Wagyu beef sales made up $20 million of the AACo’s $180 million in cattle sales last year. The company will expand its Wagyu operations to about 25,000 head over the next five years. Wagyu beef, a Japanese breed, sells for $170/kg in Japan and about $100 in Australia.
