Tree croppers just misunderstood

Plantation timber companies want a better image among the public and farmers. Timbercorp is spending more time on public relations. Great Southern Plantations said it joined three farmer organizations: the WA Farmers Federation, the WA Pastoralists & Graziers Association and the Victorian Farmers Federation. Promoters of tax-effective investment schemes have come under fire over claims they outbid other farmers for land, using the high profit margins they extract from investors largely motivated by immediate 100 per cent tax deductions rather than long-term returns and fundamental supply and demand issues. The attacks have intensified as tree croppers diversified into wine grapes, olives, almond, citrus, avocados, cattle and other more mainstream industries.
