T&R buys meatworks, sacks meatworkers
10 Jul 2006

T&R Pastoral has bought the Port Pirie abbatoir and sacked its eighty meatworkers. T&R owns meatworks at Murray Bridge where it employs 700 local workers and 130 foreign workers on 457 visas. The company is under investigation after ACTU complaints of rorting the 457 visa system which requires the employer to demonstrate a clear skill shortage requiring them to import labour. The union says the company is employing foreigners to do unskilled work.
