Battery chicken plan released
19 Jul 2006

The Victorian government has released a battery chicken reform plan outlining a number of proposals to improve living conditions for the birds and is inviting comment. The government’s preferred option is for new cages to provide a minimum amount of space per chicken of 550 sq cm, up 100 sq cm on current guidelines. This option would add about 15 cents to the price of a dozen eggs. The RSPCA said cages should include perches and nesting boxes.
