Food prices up
31 Jul 2006

Food prices jumped 8.3 per cent in the year to June according to Rabobank. Fruit rose 52 per cent, driven by a 250 per cent rise in banana prices. Citrus fruit, apples, melons and strawberries also rose as consumers replaced their banana purchases with other goods. Dairy, lamb and eggs were also up significantly, whilst pork and seafood were down.
