Abattoirs dress mutton as lamb
30 Aug 2006

The three abattoirs, two in Victoria and one in NSW, were caught processing mutton as lamb. The abattoirs failed to adhere to the rules for downgrading sheep with two or more teeth from lambs to hoggets. One was caught in July and two earlier this month during routine audits. The Australian Meat Industry Council said "we just can't afford to mix it up (lamb with hogget or mutton)."
