Cattle prices in decline 5 Sep 2006
The amount of feed available for cattle on classic stock routes in western Queensland and western New South Wales is insufficient to support the usual cattle drives. The Rural Lands Protection Board estimates cattle numbers on drives at present is down to 25,000, compared with 100,000 in wetter years. Cattle prices have fallen by more than five per cent in saleyards in recent weeks as more stock arrives on the market.
