Beef herd rebuilding at an end
4 Oct 2006

ABARE said Australian cattle numbers have increased consistently since the 2002/03 drought, and estimated the beef cattle herd at June 2006 to have been approximately 25.5 million. ABARE said with prices forecast to ease in 2006-07, as trade resumes between the United States and Japan, the impetus for continued herd rebuilding is expected to ease and slaughter rates increase.

Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics, 04/10/06
