Feedlots filling up
16 Oct 2006

Most feedlots in Queensland, northern New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia are almost at capacity, the Australian Lot Feeders Association said. Producers started turning cattle away from pasture and to feedlots in higher numbers six months ago, as the dry conditions reduced feed. Wary of the cost of handfeeding, farmers hope to make more use of feedlots. But feedlot owners say they cannot afford the price of grain.
