Cattle prices fall 30 per cent
31 Oct 2006

The East Coast Young Cattle Index, a market indicator of Australian cattle sale prices, has slumped from $3.80 per kilo in August to a 3 1/2-year low of $2.67 earlier this month, a decline of almost 30 per cent. Many beef producers and also dairy farmers are selling stock, often for slaughter in abattoirs that are now at or near capacity.
