Grain prices flourish as crops don’t

The Westpac-National Farmers Federation commodity index rose by 6.4 per cent in October. Wheat and barley prices increased by 19.7 per cent and 17.5 per cent respectively compared with September. Canola increased by 5.1 per cent, dairy by 2.2 per cent, beef by 2.1 per cent and wool by 3.1 per cent. The price for cotton fell by three per cent in spite of declining plantings in Australia. Prices for sugar also fell by 3.5 per cent.
