Palm kernel extract a cheaper option
18 Dec 2006

Dairy processor Murray Goulburn will start using fodder from Malaysia in mid-January to help feed their cows. The palm-kernel extract is a by-product of the palm oil industry and consists of palm kernel flesh and dried skins. Ross Greenaway from Murray Goulburn says the rising price of grain makes the extract a cheaper option for farmers. “The first load of palm kernel is $220 plus GST plus freight… From then on it will be a spot price, because this is traded as a commodity on the world market and obviously exchange rates will impact on it as well”.
