AMH may be sold
1 Feb 2007

Australian Meat Holdings (AMH), Australia’s largest feedlot operator, might be broken up and sold in the next few months and may fetch more than $600 million. AMH is the local division of Swift & Co, the world’s second largest processor of beef and pork. Swift, which has processed meat for 150 years, said it is reviewing “strategic and financial alternatives” including a sale, a merger, strategic partnerships or refinancing. AMH processes more than 1.5 million cattle each year at four abattoirs in Queensland and exports most of its production. Swift reported more than $US9 billion in annual sales last year.
