Flock numbers plummet 7 Feb 2007
Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) has warned that the national flock is expected to fall to its lowest level in 60 years. MLA chief market analyst, Peter Weeks, says that this year’s flock will be the smallest it has been since the drought 1947 as a result of the drought increasing slaughter numbers and curbing lambing percentages. Mr Weeks has predicted numbers would fall 5.5 million to 95.3 million, 20 million less than before the drought began.
