Stockman says sheep welfare came first
8 Feb 2007

Norman House, a stockman testifying at the trial of sheep exporter Emanuel Exports said, "Always the welfare of the livestock would come first." Mr House, an experienced long-haul live stockman said that he believed the sheep were treated humanely and that everything had been done to look after their welfare. Sheep exporting company Emanuel Exports and two of its directors, Michael Stanton and Graham Daws, are defending charges of animal cruelty relating to a shipment of 103,232 sheep to the Middle East in 2003, of which 1,304 died. The prosecution alleges that the company put the lives of the sheep in jeopardy by transporting them at the wrong time of the year and with inadequate food and health checks. The hearing continues.
