City shelter for farm babies 23 Mar 2007
Rhonda Hall, an Arcadia resident, has turned her backyard into a mini-farm to care for ailing sheep, goats and deer. She is currently hand rearing 8 lambs and a calf. "We simply can’t keep up with the number of animals that need our help," she said. "I don’t advertise what I do but farmers are finding out about me and asking for my help." Ms Hall does not charge a fee, instead relying on funds from a nursery farmyard she runs to cover the cost of feed. But it is not enough and Ms Hall said she is living hand to mouth and is never sure where the next bottle feed for the animals is coming from.
