Concerns over kangaroo meat
24 May 2007

Animal lobby groups such as Animal Liberation and Wildlife Protection of Australia have claimed that kangaroo meat is potentially dangerous and that the 'roo meat industry should be shut down. The industry is worth $200 million per annum, 90 per cent of which is exported. The lobby groups want the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service to carry out tests for toxoplasmosis at kangaroo processing centres as the disease can be transferred to humans in raw or under-cooked meat.
