US lags on cattle ID
28 Jun 2007

The US is years away from reaching the same cattle identification standards that have been implemented in Australia. This means that they are unable to meet food traceability requirements imposed in markets such as Japan, jeopardising export opportunities. The only identification that comes with cattle arriving at saleyards in the US is a delivery docket with the owner's name and address, number of head and a brief description of the stock.
