Cruelty charges over waterless sheep 11 Jul 2007
A man being charged with cruelty to 3,500 sheep faces a maximum penalty of $50,000 or five years in jail if found guilty. The RSPCA was called to the farm at Pernjori WA on 9 August last year and found that there was only a trickle of water going into troughs and several dead sheep were found in the troughs. Following the inspection the owner said that he arranged for someone to look after the sheep but that person had failed to do so. When police visited the farm at the end of August they found that there was no water and around 200 sheep had died. The verdict on the case is due to be delivered on 14 August.
