More grain to ease prices 16 Jul 2007
While further rains will be need to get the crop to harvest, the latest estimates from the Department of Primary Industries put the national winter wheat crop at 5.08 million hectares. The anticipated bumper wheat crop in NSW should help to drive prices down by the end of the year for meat, poultry and eggs, through reduced feed costs. In NSW the area in drought has now reduced from 80.7 per cent to 69.9 per cent but another 330mm of rain would be needed over the next 3 months for an end to the drought to be declared.
