Lambs rare in WA 18 Jul 2007
Retail prices for lamb in Western Australia have risen by around 15 per cent over the past year and could go up another 10 per cent in the next few weeks. The drought has pushed sheep prices to a 5 year high and a shortage of lambs has caused two processors to cut their operations back to four days a week. Lambs were sold earlier in the year so that farmers could avoid high grain feed prices which means that production is now 20 per cent below this time last year.
