Horses immobilised by flu
27 Aug 2007

State border roadblocks have been established to prevent the movement of horses as 47 cases of the equine influenza virus have been confirmed, most in the Centennial Park Equestrian Centre in Sydney. Over the weekend events around the country were cancelled and animals have been quarantined at the event grounds. The current ban on horse movement will be reassessed tomorrow, but in the meantime owners face fines of $20,000 if caught violating the ban. The disease is thought to have originated from three imported Japanese thoroughbreds.
