Horse breeding season shifted
28 Aug 2007

The start of the official horse breeding season has been moved from September 1 to August 27 but the indefinite ban on movements could prevent mares from getting to stud farms. When announcing the change yesterday, the Keeper of the Australian Stud Book, Michael Ford, said "It's the first time we've ever moved it, and it's just to allow people to start clearing the decks, so to speak". Every year around 26,500 coverings take place from now until December with top stallions often booked perform up to four or five services each day.
