Horse vaccination program expands 9 Oct 2007
Around 95,000 horses throughout Queensland, NSW and Victoria will be inoculated with the flu vaccine in an attempt to halt the spread of the disease. State primary industries ministers and racing officials met with the federal Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister yesterday and agreed that all racehorses in areas that have not yet been struck by the flu virus in eastern seaboard states would be vaccinated. The ministers also agreed that a chilled vaccine would be used for broodmares and yearlings which delivers slower immunity than the live vaccine being used currently.
