No cattle but plenty of 'roos 10 Oct 2007
Helicopter cattle musterer Brian Dayes has said that cattle numbers are so reduced that he has resorted to shooting kangaroos to supplement his income. A lack of cattle fodder presents no problem for kangaroos who can survive on short grass that would not be touched by stock. Mr Dayes is based in Windorah in southwestern Queensland and said that properties in the area are down to 20 per cent of their normal season stocking rate. Some properties estimate that they have mobs of up to 20,000 kangaroos even though professional shooters are taking bags every night.
