UK gets another dose of foot-and-mouth
23 Nov 2007

The site that was to blame for previous leaks of foot-and-mouth disease in the UK has said that there could have been another incident. An inspection team visited the government laboratory yesterday and were assured that the virus had not been released into the environment. The latest incident is believed to be due to the virus escaping through a leaky valve and comes only weeks after bans on exports of meat and dairy products from Britain were lifted after an outbreak in August. Investigations into previous breaches found that faulty drains, construction work, heavy rain and vehicle movements were to blame.
