Rural crime booming 26 Nov 2007
More horses are being stolen from Camden in Sydney's west than are stolen from the rural heartland of NSW. As the drought continues to bite there has been an increase in the numbers of horse thefts. Detective Senior-Constable Craig McVey said that part of the problem is that farms in the city's west are very close together unlike out west where there could be 20,000ha between neighbours instead of 1ha. Rural crime is estimated to cost $70 million each year which equates to about $5,700 for each farmer.
