Can't see farms for the trees
17 Dec 2007

Farmers at Inverell in northern NSW are concerned that increased land values could drive them out of business. Inverell is the latest region to be targeted by the forestry industry which is expected to grow even faster as more companies seek to offset their carbon emissions through plantings. Mal Peters, former president of the NSW Farmers Association, said that the only way for farmers to stay viable was to get larger and larger but that this would be impacted by the forestry industry converting grazing land.
