South Korea wins out clause for US beef 21 May 2008
South Korea has moved a step closer to allowing imports of US beef to resume following the signing of an agreement that will allow trade to be suspended again if there are any health concerns. Trade was due to recommence on May 15, but was delayed for 10 days after public protests. South Korea was the largest importer of American beef until the US discovered a case of mad cow disease in 2003. Limited imports of boneless cuts of young cows were allowed in 2006 but were stopped again after bone fragments were found in some shipments.
