Swift driving down beef cattle prices
12 Sep 2008

Australia''s largest meat processor, Swift Australia, which is owned by the Brazilian-based JBS Fribois is forcing down domestic cattle prices says Nick Burton Taylor, the former chairman of the Australian Agricultural Company. Swift took over the Tasman Group''s abattoirs and feedlots in May and bought Australian Meat Holdings last year. Burton Taylor says Swift are using a weight and carcass performance grid pricing structure and is pushing to source more cattle direct off-farm.
